<br />
This is my first real attempt at making a hair and makeup video. It's not really a tutorial, but more of a demonstration. I realized that I didn't like the sound of my own voice and it was a bit nerve-wracking to try and talk the whole time, so I just recorded my every day makeup process and a page boy hair style. I took the sound off and sped it up, even though it's still 15 minutes long. If you want to skip the makeup, the hair starts at minute six.<br />
<br />
Tip: Make sure your hair is completely dry before removing the hair clips.<br />

I am actually going to Las Vegas in February and was very excited to show off my vintage style. I chose to put together an outfit for the day and one for the night. I also decided to try and use mostly items that I already own so that I can truly say that I approve of their quality and how they look on the body.<br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_UGbh7_KeTc/Vgh9ckNjyQI/AAAAAAAAGSs/G_PnSFhlV5U/s1600/IMG_0896.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: none; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_UGbh7_KeTc/Vgh9ckNjyQI/AAAAAAAAGSs/G_PnSFhlV5U/s1600/IMG_0896.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
After my last tutorial, I had some requests for videos. This was my first real attempt at making a tutorial video. And because it was way harder than I imagined, it turned into more of a demonstration. I didn't do a voice over or music and I sped it up so that it wouldn't be 30 minutes long.<br />
<br />
Things I learned while making these videos:<br />
<ul>
<li>Making videos is hard</li>
<li>I need a tripod for my phone</li>
<li>I need to shoot landscape and not portrait</li>
<li>Videos take up an enormous amount of memory. Yikes!</li>
<li>I had no idea how to use iMovie. </li>
</ul>
<br />
<ul>
</ul>
I'm not going to give up on more videos in the future, but there is definitely a learning curve. That's enough bitching about the process, let's talk about the actual makeup.<br />
<br />
I decided to do this look on myself and my friend Jessica. She was a wonderful and willing model. I wanted to show a similar look on two different skin shades and how it translates. This is a look that I had contemplated on doing for a while and we had a lot of fun taking our photos afterwards. The final result accentuates your expression, so it's really easy to make funny faces. I'll post some of those at the end.<br />
<br />
<b>Lichtenstein Demo 1 (on myself)</b><br />
<br />
After I applied my usual foundation and concealer routine to create a clean palette, I started by mapping out my lines with a brown eyebrow pencil. This allowed me the freedom to explore what I wanted to do without making a mess of my face. Once I got it the way I wanted it, I then went over the lines with black. If you do wear this look out for Halloween, keep in mind that this is a look that can get pretty messed up throughout the night. And you should drink out of a straw. Don't hug anyone and don't scratch your face, which is really hard. The reason it's so hard to keep this look clean is because you can't really set it with powder. You could try a makeup setting spray, but I didn't have any of that to test out.<br />
<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="281" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/LXmDP5CUoRw" width="500"></iframe>
<br />
<br />
<b>Lichtenstein Demo 2 (Jessica)</b><br />
<br />
In this demonstration, I used the same techniques, but added different colors and tears. You should search the internet for inspiration and pick and choose which elements you want to include. I used a peach concealer for Jessica's dots because I wanted to give it contrast, but white would be too stark and I saw several examples online with red dots, but to me, they just look like zits.<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="375" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/GTsNtwD5bnU" width="500"></iframe>
<br />
<br />
Here is a list of products that I used in both videos:<br />

I hoping that the upcoming Halloween holiday will inspire me to start back up. If you have any ideas for tutorials that you would like to see, email me at <a href="mailto:ali@redroosterdesign.com">ali@redroosterdesign.com</a>.<br />
<br />
So to start, here is a Marilyn Monroe tutorial because she is one of my favorite vintage inspirations and I've actually never been her for Halloween.<br />
<br />
I started with a black and white photo of Marilyn, but <b>I wanted to make this look more severe to really emphasize all of her famous features</b> <b>and because it's for Halloween</b>. It's a bit of a mix between a regular Marilyn makeup and and a pop art Marylin with muted colors.<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: none; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4_Td1SuLwbw/VfNG6-HdKjI/AAAAAAAAGNw/EaMfB4GvbMg/s1600/marilyn-monroe.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4_Td1SuLwbw/VfNG6-HdKjI/AAAAAAAAGNw/EaMfB4GvbMg/s1600/marilyn-monroe.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Marilyn photo used for reference.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I used my <a href="http://www.makeupforever.com/us/en-us/make-up/artistic/flash-colors/12-flash-color-case" target="_blank">Make Up For Ever Flash Palettes</a>. They are creams so they blend easily and they are very pigmented.<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: none; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IVwhA4bgaFg/VfNITYqPshI/AAAAAAAAGN8/_YF-NRoVL7k/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IVwhA4bgaFg/VfNITYqPshI/AAAAAAAAGN8/_YF-NRoVL7k/s1600/1.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Make Up For Ever Flash Palettes</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I started by adding the highlights. I just roughly applied them using a flat brush.<br />
<br />
<table align="left" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: none; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IFRDdcYa63c/VfNIu_RQ1iI/AAAAAAAAGOE/p-_CaqWGnkA/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IFRDdcYa63c/VfNIu_RQ1iI/AAAAAAAAGOE/p-_CaqWGnkA/s1600/2.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Highlights</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Then I added the shadows using browns. I used the photograph as a reference as to where to put the shadows and highlights. Marilyn was known for her bedroom eyes and that's achieved with the defined shadows and highlights.<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: none; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MwqepPWO5w0/VfNKGm8sDpI/AAAAAAAAGOY/75yGB07uWfE/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MwqepPWO5w0/VfNKGm8sDpI/AAAAAAAAGOY/75yGB07uWfE/s1600/4.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Shadows</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I then added the signature arched eyebrows. They are pointy and thicker at the points.<br />
<br />
<table align="left" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: none; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rsGiyHYZEb0/VfNJj2ayZoI/AAAAAAAAGOQ/6C1YnITIoi0/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rsGiyHYZEb0/VfNJj2ayZoI/AAAAAAAAGOQ/6C1YnITIoi0/s1600/3.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Eyebrows</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I then blended the face with a blending sponge by patting the areas lightly.<br />

Then I used a smaller brush to blend around the eyes.<br />

Next, I went over the brown areas with a brown eye shadow from my naked palette to set it.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sleek palette</td></tr>

Then it was time for the signature Marilyn lips. Her lips have a big bow and are red. I used the same brown cream that I used on my face to outline the lips. Marilyn actually used many shades of red to create her dramatic dimensional lip. After I blended the lips I added different shades of red and pink to the center and finished it off with a dramatic white highlight on the bottom center lip.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Lip Highlight</td></tr>

Finally, I added eyeliner. You don't have to be super precise. If you look at photos of Marilyn, you can see that her eyeliner has a bit of an angle down on the ends and she usually had liner on the outside bottom of her eye to create that droopy shadow.<br />
<br />

It's a little late, but in case you are looking for some inspiration or help, here is a tutorial on how to transform yourself into Morticia Addams.<br />
<br />
I started by using my airbrush machine and the color Arctica to create the deathly white complexion that Morticia is famous for. You don't have to use an air brush. You can use a very light foundation or even mix a white face paint in with your regular foundation.<br />
<br />
<table align="left" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: none; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r8or6PXhA-Y/VFPzmXO3CSI/AAAAAAAAGIU/vfGwJZreXHA/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r8or6PXhA-Y/VFPzmXO3CSI/AAAAAAAAGIU/vfGwJZreXHA/s1600/1.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Arctica and Airbrush</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
You can see the before and after here. I thought I was white already, but I was wrong. I also noticed that the whiter my skin got the pinker my eyeballs got.<br />
<br />
<table align="left" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: none; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Y90R9X49XeA/VFPzmx84dPI/AAAAAAAAGJY/o1xV75AHCj8/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Y90R9X49XeA/VFPzmx84dPI/AAAAAAAAGJY/o1xV75AHCj8/s1600/2.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Before and after airbrushing</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Next I did some contouring, light and dark. For the light I mixed white cream from my Makeup Forever Flash palette and my concealer.<br />
<br />
<table align="left" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: none; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QIrduhHS5Fo/VFPznN3QoQI/AAAAAAAAGIc/VOFFHcuESHo/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QIrduhHS5Fo/VFPznN3QoQI/AAAAAAAAGIc/VOFFHcuESHo/s1600/3.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br />
<br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Here is where I put the lights and the darks. The contoured cheek bones are are very important for this look.<br />
<br />
<table align="left" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: none; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eKVN8DkaVhQ/VFPznbp8ShI/AAAAAAAAGIg/RaOO9cdSOww/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eKVN8DkaVhQ/VFPznbp8ShI/AAAAAAAAGIg/RaOO9cdSOww/s1600/4.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
After blending the contouring I started on the eyes. Morticia's eyes have a signature smokey look. I started by using a brown to sketch out the shape. I created a v-shape on the outer corners and pulled it all the way up to the inside of the brow. Then I used the gray and the black from this palette and went over the outer v-shape blending as I went. Do it in small increments and blend. I also used the white on my brow bone and the inner corner of my eyes. <br />
<br />
<table align="left" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: none; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hxAYzHI8qWs/VFPzngg725I/AAAAAAAAGIs/Q84opknKbR4/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hxAYzHI8qWs/VFPzngg725I/AAAAAAAAGIs/Q84opknKbR4/s1600/5.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
You can see here that I kept darkening the shadow in the outer corner.<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: none; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nGyBDUJTuxA/VFPzn1ecb4I/AAAAAAAAGIw/dATS3JC-MZM/s1600/6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nGyBDUJTuxA/VFPzn1ecb4I/AAAAAAAAGIw/dATS3JC-MZM/s1600/6.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I also added a shimmery white to the inner corners. If you black gets to smudgy you can also use a brush with concealer to clean it up.<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: none; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U8XndT-chLo/VFPzoUcst6I/AAAAAAAAGI4/cgwlX_UkDqE/s1600/7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U8XndT-chLo/VFPzoUcst6I/AAAAAAAAGI4/cgwlX_UkDqE/s1600/7.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I then added black eyeliner to the top lid. I used a basic cat eye shape and used a cream liner lightly under the eye. I don't like the way my eyes look with black on the water line so I put it under the lashes and filled the water line with white eyeliner.<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: none; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qBJDTnY1nGw/VFPzohiDHnI/AAAAAAAAGJA/3XyllWrNHFA/s1600/8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qBJDTnY1nGw/VFPzohiDHnI/AAAAAAAAGJA/3XyllWrNHFA/s1600/8.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Next I drew on the eyebrows. Morticia's eyebrows are black and rounded.<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: none; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cX1oRWw-Azw/VFPzoxkafdI/AAAAAAAAGJI/wrhz2OUrgWA/s1600/9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cX1oRWw-Azw/VFPzoxkafdI/AAAAAAAAGJI/wrhz2OUrgWA/s1600/9.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The false eyelashes, mascara and red lips are the final touch. Set it with powder and put on your wig.<br />
<br />

<span class="st">A <i>pageboy hairstyle</i> is a <i>haircut</i> which is designed for medium to short length hair. In the fifties the <i>pageboy</i> generally stopped at shoulder-length but later renditions saw the <i>hair cut</i> to just below the ear, where it curls under; in a reverse <i>pageboy</i>, the hair is curled outwards.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="st">Here is how to do it using pin curls.</span><br />

<span class="st">I started with pin curls that I made using the <a href="http://www.vintagehair.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=10" target="_blank">sculpture pin curler tool</a>. You don't need to use this tool, but it keeps the curls uniform and makes the process faster. I alternated rows between rolling up and under curls.</span><br />

I went back and forth about whether to buy it. It was very unique and I had never seen one, but on the other hand, I had just cut my hair and didn't have enough to even make a bun. So, I decided to make one. The tools you need are:<br />
<ul>
<li>A bun form (I got mine off of Amazon.com. Make sure it's the kind with snaps on the end, not the circle kind.</li>
<li>Fake hair (I got some cheap ($20) human hair that was very close to my color at my local Sally's beauty. I bought the kind that's just on a track. </li>
<li>Thread</li>
<li>Needle</li>
<li>Scissors </li>
<li>Bobby pins</li>
</ul>

If you aren't familiar with this term, it's when your eyeliner extends past your eye and gets thicker with a pointy flick on the end. It's called this because it makes your eyes look more feline, like a cat. There isn't one way to do this or one type of eyeliner. In fact, I'm still searching for the perfect eyeliner for this look. There are pros and cons to the many different types. Here are some of the types:<br />
<ul>
<li><b>Liquid:</b> <i>Good for this look because it goes on smooth, even with clean edges.</i></li>
<ul>
<li><b>Felt Tip: </b><i>Easier to use, but can sometimes bleed or not be dark enough.</i></li>
<li><b>Hard Tip:</b> <i>Can be harder to use because there is no give, but tends to be darker. Especially if waterproof. But it can get stuck in your eyelashes and cause clumping when trying to apply mascara. But stays on well.</i></li>
</ul>
<li><b>Pencil: </b><i>Not very good for a cat eye as you can't get the small flick on the end very well. It is easier to apply because it's not as messy. Better for a smokey eye because it can be smudged and blended.</i></li>
<li><b>Cream:</b> <i>This is what I use because I prefer to use a small brush. It gives me more control and goes on even and dark.</i> <i>Can transfer to the lid if you have oily eyelids.</i></li>
<ul>
<li>Small brush</li>
<li>Angled brush</li>
</ul>
</ul>
<i>Update: I have since found an eyeliner that I absolutely love and had to share. The brand is <a href="https://www.jessesgirlcosmetics.com/product/liquid-eyeliner/liquid-eyeliner-black-454" target="_blank">Jessie's Girl</a>. It's cheap and it's wonderful. Goes on smooth, doesn't bleed, doesn't transfer to the lids, doesn't dry out or crack. Is a very dark color and is easy to apply.</i> <i>(added August 18th)</i><br />
<ul><ul>
</ul>
</ul>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: none; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TZfze2UM9I0/U3fiaOLb7xI/AAAAAAAAFkc/OBlseoJ4VS8/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TZfze2UM9I0/U3fiaOLb7xI/AAAAAAAAFkc/OBlseoJ4VS8/s1600/1.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
You can see the different shades and staying power of the eyeliners above. The bottom photo is after wiping my hand with a towel. The one that stayed is the waterproof liquid with the hard tip. I still prefer the cream because, while the liquid one stays, it gets stuck in my eyelashes.<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: none; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qgCGByJscDs/U3flr2FnCkI/AAAAAAAAFko/DGEu2_BR4vs/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qgCGByJscDs/U3flr2FnCkI/AAAAAAAAFko/DGEu2_BR4vs/s1600/2.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Here are the eyeliner brushes that I have. The first one is my preferred brush. It's very small and allows for more control. The angles brush is good for the flick on the end.<br />
<br />

Here is a video of how I apply my eyeliner with cream liner and a small brush.<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="386" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/7cNL-gJiyUQ" width="515"></iframe>
<br />
If you need a little extra help there is a trick you can use to make the flick even and straight, scotch tape. Place a small piece of tape as shown in the photo.<br />

Here is a demo of how you apply the flick with scotch tape. Pull the tape off slowly to protect your skin. <br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="386" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/5eHGw_Xe9vY" width="515"></iframe>
<br />
And to get both sides even, just flip your tape over and use the eyeliner residue from the last application as a guide for where to stop.<br />

<br />
Here is the final result. It doesn't have to be perfect and it takes some practice. Don't be afraid to just wipe it off and start again. It's just makeup and it's supposed to be fun. Get crazy with it too. Play with how far you can take the wing and how thick you can make it. There is no wrong way to do it.<br />

Our lovely model <a href="https://www.facebook.com/michelle.tate.165" target="_blank">Michelle Tate</a> made this look effortless with her flaming red hair and porcelain skin. Casey of <a href="http://www.greylinecreative.com/" target="_blank">Greyline Photography</a> used some new techniques that she learned at the After Dark conference. Here you can see the series together:<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Uj3-sNz8gis/U08yK1VtH5I/AAAAAAAAFhA/pd2uDtAMV9o/s1600/seasons.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Uj3-sNz8gis/U08yK1VtH5I/AAAAAAAAFhA/pd2uDtAMV9o/s1600/seasons.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Top left: Winter, Top right: Spring, Bottom left: Fall, Bottom right: Summer</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I started by airbrushing Michelle's skin with my <a href="http://bellettostudio.com/" target="_blank">Belletto airbrush system</a>. I then defined her brows with Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil. I used several different shades of green eyeshadow to get this look. I used a couple from my Sleek Palettes until I got the right look. I added Makeup Forever diamond powder on top for shimmer. In order to make her eyes look bigger, I added lashes on top and bottom. But the bottom lashes I placed lower than her actual eye and filled the gap with white cream from my Makeup Forever Flash palette and set it with white eyeshadow. I used Illamasque cream blush and the lip was achieved by using the coral color from the flash palette.<br />

The dress is by <a href="https://www.facebook.com/BonnerBell" target="_blank">BonnerBell</a>, a local designer. Support your local artists!<br />

<br />
One down and one more to go. So far <a href="http://www.greylinecreative.com/" target="_blank">Greyline Creative</a> and I have completed Summer, Fall and now Winter. We were inspired by the seasons for these fun photo shoots. Sometimes we like to stretch our creative muscles and do some photos that are more creative, unique and more editorial. This shoot was no exception. For winter we tried to capture the ethereal feeling of a winter snow queen. We decided that pink would be a good accent color because we saw so much blue used for similar shots and we wanted to do something different. I made the pink collar out of coffee filters that I dyed pink. I created a cage and then filled it with the flower-like paper much like a parade float. The twig head piece was made by a local floral designer, <a href="http://www.julesdesignevents.com/" target="_blank">Jules Design.</a> The hair was a combination of white spray and a substance called angel hair. I had never used this before and it was wonderful. It was like a mix between spider webs and hair. It created really lovely puffs that mimicked snow.<br />
<br />
We had a beautiful model, Morgan, who was very kind to allow us to do whatever we wanted. I covered her well moisturized face in white makeup from the Makeup Forever flash palette and contoured her face with ice blue eyeshadow. I added glitter to her eyelids and used Ben Nye white mascara on her eyelashes. I have her some rosy cheeks with pink powder blush and berry kissed lips with a combination of clear lip gloss and a dap of hot pink eyeshadow in the middle of her upper and lower lips. <br />

We want to change our look and sometimes cutting bangs seems like a good option. But sometimes we immediately regret it. Some people are just bang people and some are not. I could go both ways, but I prefer to not have bangs. Cowlicks can be an issue as well as texture and thickness of hair.<br />
<br />
But you really don't have to choose. If you only want bangs sometime or you just aren't sure if you can pull them off, get some fake ones. They sell clip in bangs now. I'm not going to put a link because there are so many places to get them. Buy the real human hair type so that you can use heat tools if needed. Also, to make them look more natural, get them in blonde and have your hair stylist color and cut them to match your hair. You can buy a few pairs and have all types of different lengths and styles without the commitment.<br />

It's actually Lisa Marie Presley. It's from his book "Making Faces."<br />

<br />
Here is my before and after. I didn't have a Marilyn wig, so I just went with a blonde wig that I had from when I was Miss Piggy for Halloween.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0Q35LjoTdgo/Up4BuG0l3fI/AAAAAAAAEdI/t0FRQcgB9R0/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0Q35LjoTdgo/Up4BuG0l3fI/AAAAAAAAEdI/t0FRQcgB9R0/s1600/1.jpg" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I started this look by moisturizing my face. I use <a href="http://www.embryolisseusa.com/products" target="_blank">EmbryoLisse <span class="font15">Lait-Crème Concentrè.</span></a> I then contoured my face using Makeup Forever flash palette white (because I'm so white that I need a white for a highlighter) and Makeup Forever concealer palette in dark for the shadows.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nwUh6EKV_6U/Up4C09a2-3I/AAAAAAAAEdU/yC3-fweEsdM/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nwUh6EKV_6U/Up4C09a2-3I/AAAAAAAAEdU/yC3-fweEsdM/s1600/2.jpg" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
You can see here where I added the highlights and shadows. I blended it all with my foundation, Makeup Forever HD in 117 and a Real Techniques blending brush. You don't want the contouring to be obvious. It just add dimension.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-h4fajKiQE4g/Up4C_c8UuVI/AAAAAAAAEdc/tE9zvwCZkFM/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-h4fajKiQE4g/Up4C_c8UuVI/AAAAAAAAEdc/tE9zvwCZkFM/s1600/3.jpg" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Next I worked on the eyebrows. I use Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil in caramel. I created a strong arched brow for this look because Marilyn was known for her brows. I also used the flash palette white again to highlight the brow bone and make the eyebrow sharp around the edges.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-H8D0a2jZEeo/Up4DmP_tvTI/AAAAAAAAEdk/-IZd3mLRgfk/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-H8D0a2jZEeo/Up4DmP_tvTI/AAAAAAAAEdk/-IZd3mLRgfk/s1600/4.jpg" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
To add more dimension to the brows, I added a golden brow gel on top. I then primed by entire eyelid with Urban Decay eyeshadow primer.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CM7-5CCMWkw/Up4D5tMf9eI/AAAAAAAAEds/wo432S7Q9k8/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CM7-5CCMWkw/Up4D5tMf9eI/AAAAAAAAEds/wo432S7Q9k8/s1600/5.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Next is the part that really makes the look. You may have noticed the Marilyn has a distinct eye shape. Especially her eye lid. It's a large lid with a crease that starts high on the inner corner and tilts down on the outside. This is one of the reasons she had such wonderful bedroom eyes. I copied this shape on my own eyes. You can use shadow and highlight to alter the shape of your eyes.<br />
<br />
Again, after applying the primer to help the eyeshadow last longer, I used the three colors below circled in red. The white on the brow bone and the inner corner of my eye, the brown to create the shape and the yellow on the lid and to blend them together.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XO9JhQa8W40/Up4FR58Uf1I/AAAAAAAAEd4/7152XgYGeOA/s1600/6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XO9JhQa8W40/Up4FR58Uf1I/AAAAAAAAEd4/7152XgYGeOA/s1600/6.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This is the shape that you want to achieve. It will seem strange at first and you will even feel like you are making a mess of your eyes, but try to keep the line clean and blend upward. You can use a lighter brown to help blend. Just keep blending. I used MAC brushes 230 and 217 for this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oVpReqZ6Wqo/Up4Fqm09IcI/AAAAAAAAEeA/5BlE4nUWzFQ/s1600/7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oVpReqZ6Wqo/Up4Fqm09IcI/AAAAAAAAEeA/5BlE4nUWzFQ/s1600/7.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
One you have the right shape, time to apply the glitter. I used highbeam highlighter to make the glitter stick. I applied it to the lids where the lightest area was located and then packed on the Makeup Forever diamond powder on the left. It is a very fine glitter. I then applied a nude shimmer, not sure of the name or where I got it, to all the areas with brown. I then applied a heavier clear glitter on top of the first diamond powder and a copper over the nude shimmer. Finally, I applied the diamond powder to the brow bone.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gjlDOVzGHks/Up4GKBwr84I/AAAAAAAAEeM/5MghYDJ03ks/s1600/8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gjlDOVzGHks/Up4GKBwr84I/AAAAAAAAEeM/5MghYDJ03ks/s1600/8.jpg" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
You can see the effect it creates below on the left. It really helps to highlight that large eyelid. I then applied a MAC liquid eyeliner starting at the outside lower lash line and extending out to create a cat eye. I also added just a flick of black underneath on the outside to help give the illusion of a shadow. This will help with that heavy lash look.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aogwfrKJcVM/Up4G3xHpekI/AAAAAAAAEeU/uf76PE2T7q0/s1600/9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aogwfrKJcVM/Up4G3xHpekI/AAAAAAAAEeU/uf76PE2T7q0/s1600/9.jpg" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
I applied lots of mascara, Eye of Horus, and some glitter eyeliner around the black eyeliner to help define it. And I added false lashes to the outer corners of the eyes. I finished the look off with rosy cheeks and Makeup Forever HD powder.<br />
<br />

Marilyn's lips were also one of her signature features. I used five different lip products. I started by powdering my lips lightly to help make the color stick. I then use a MAC lip pencil in beet to line the lips. I lined them a bit outside of my natural lip line and rounded them to make them look more like Marilyn. I just filled the liner in on the corners of the lips though leaving the middle bare. I then took a dark red lipstick and went over the outside corners. I took a lighter pinky red and filled in the middle. I then took a nude and put ad dab of that right in the middle of my upper and lower lip. I finished it off with just a bit of gloss in the middle as well. All of this helps create that dimensional pout.<br />

This time we are doing some portfolio work. It is a series inspired by the seasons. This particular shoot was all about Summer.<br />
<br />
I bought some new Sleek palettes and they were perfect for this shoot. The particular palette that I used is the acid color palette. The colors are very saturated and blend easily. I used a MAC 217 to do the blending. Before I applied the makeup to the model, I practiced on myself. I knew that I wanted to use a pink/orange/yellow color scheme to mimic the feel of summer.<br />

I started by applying an eyeshadow primer (Urban Decay). I then put down a base of white eye shadow to make the color brighter. I put a thick coat of orange (4th color on top row) all over my eye lid and blended it up into the crease. I then blended light hot pink (3rd color on bottom row) in the outer corner of the eye. I also added the orange and pink under the eye. I then blended the darker pink (1st on top row) even further out in the corner. I also added the bright yellow to the inner corner of the eye and underneath the eye inside. Finally, I added a bit of black in a v-shape to the outer corner of the eye to add dimension. It ended up looking purple instead of black which was nice.<br />

<h3>
The Shoot</h3>
Casey, the photographer, had the idea that she wanted to weave the models hair into a fence to create a romantic, whimsical composition. We knew we wanted flower to be a large part of the image and decided on orange and pink snapdragons, hydrangea and eucalyptus. We got a great deal on flowers from Casey's friend Julie from <a href="http://www.julesdesignevents.com/" target="_blank">Jule's Design</a>, an amazing flower designer.<br />
<br />
The corset was one that I created for my <a href="http://www.bouffantsandbeehives.com/2013/03/more-fashion-show-pics.html" target="_blank">Seven Deadly Sins fashion show</a>. I'm glad that I was able to use it again.<br />

This is Gail. She wanted an authentic vintage look. My idea of more authentic look includes more sculptural hair. Her hair was actually longer, but I pin curled the bottom all the way around to give it a Marylin appeal. Gail's porcelain skin and blonde hair also helped. Contact Greyline if you want to set up your own vintage photo shoot.<br />

Most of these came from <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/pixiwoo" target="_blank">Pixiwoo</a> tutorials that I watched.<br />
<br />
I was really excited to apply my makeup this morning because I got to use all of my new products. I'll start by going through the steps that I went through while applying my makeup and talk a little about each product.<br />
<br />
Here is the before and after so you can see the results at a quick glance:<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The first item is <a href="http://www.embryolisseusa.com/products" target="_blank">Embryolisse</a> moisturizer. It is a concentrated cream that has a light floral smell and goes on smooth. It only takes a little and it makes your skin feel so soft and smooth. I think it's one of the best moisturizers I've used. I put that on and then used <a href="http://www.sephora.com/pore-perfecting-complexion-primer-potion-P241800?skuId=1435106" target="_blank">Urban Decay Pore Perfecting Primer Potion</a>. I keep going back on forth on the effectiveness of face primers, but I think it's especially helpful during the hot summer months to keep your makeup in place all day. This particular primer is thicker than others that I've used, and it's slightly tinted, but it goes on smooth and does not feel heavy. Between the moisturizer and the primer my face was already feeling flawless.<br />
<br />

<br />
Next I applied a new foundation to my face. I used <a href="http://www.sephora.com/skin-base-foundation-P309110?skuId=1403351" target="_blank">Illamasqa Skin Base Foundation</a> and I used my <a href="http://realtechniques.com/" target="_blank">Real Techniques</a> buffing brush to apply it to my face. The Real Techniques brushes are created and sold by the ladies that brought you <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/pixiwoo" target="_blank">Pixiwoo</a>. They are high quality and affordable. The foundation gave a light to medium coverage. It's light weight and goes on smooth and is offered in many shades. I chose a porcelain yellow tone. I think it's important to figure out if your skin tone has a pink or yellow undertone. It makes it much easier to choose a color. The foundation is in a 1 oz bottle. It's pricey for such a small amount, but like many of the more expensive brands, it will last a long time because of the high quality.<br />

<br />
Next I applied <a href="http://www.sephora.com/creamy-concealer-kit-P285605?skuId=1317775" target="_blank">Bobby Brown Cream Concealer</a> under my eyes. This concealer gives great coverage. It's thick enough to cover dark circles, but does not settle in the lines under the eyes. It comes with it's own little powder pot to set it. I also bought a <a href="http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/shaded/156/329/Products/Face/Cheek/Powder-Blush/index.tmpl" target="_blank">MAC blush in buff</a>. It is a great color to use as a contour for the cheekbones. It creates a natural shadow. I also used it in the crease of my eyes to add some dimension.<br />

At this point I also filled in my brows with <a href="http://www.sephora.com/brow-wiz-P202633?skuId=1056084" target="_blank">Anastasia Brow Wiz</a> in caramel. I've been using this product for a while and love it. You would think that with all of the products I've shown I would look like I'm wearing more makeup, but the idea is to not look like you're wearing makeup and to accentuate your features. You can kind of see the blush contour in the photo below. Also notice the stand up pin curls. This will create the retro hair I do later. The back of my head is in eight large flat pin curls.<br />

The next two products come from the brand <a href="http://www.eyeofhorus.com.au/store" target="_blank">Eye of Horus</a>. This is a brand that comes from Australia. I used an eyeliner pen and mascara. I was excited about trying this eyeliner because it's supposed to not make an imprint on the lid. I have that problem a lot. Most of my eyeliners transfer to my upper eyelid throughout the day and I have to constantly wipe it off. At first I wasn't crazy about this because it was a bit difficult to apply. When I applied it, it bled a little into some of the fine line in my eyelid, but the color is such a dark, rich black and after I cleaned it up with a q-tip I thought it looked pretty good. I just might need to practice putting it on. The tip is very similar to a felt tip marker. The mascara was also very dark and has a nice applicator brush. I'm not sure if it's any better than some of the other mascaras that I tried, but it's nice. The eyeliner also stayed put all day.<br />

I then applied a cream blush by <a href="http://www.sephora.com/cream-blusher-P241707?skuId=1416254" target="_blank">Illamasqua</a> in Brazen. A little goes a long way with this stuff. It is highly pigmented. I applied it to a brush and then wiped most of it off on my hand before applying it to the apples of my cheeks. You can see in the photo below that is melted a bit in transport.<br />
<br />
I then lined my lips with my favorite lip liner, <a href="http://www.sephora.com/aqua-lip-waterproof-lipliner-pencil-P183919?skuId=1005438" target="_blank">Makeup For Ever</a> in nude and applied <a href="http://www.sephora.com/lip-tar-stained-gloss-P379819?skuId=1514041" target="_blank">Lip Tar stained gloss</a> in the color <span class="color"><span class="value"><span class="OneLinkNoTx">Rhythm Box </span></span></span>on top. The Lip Tar comes in a little pouch with it's own applicator brush. The name tar is a little misleading because it isn't very tacky or thick. It is a beautiful color and goes on smooth and lasts a long time. It didn't make it through lunch, but it made it up to that point. <br />

Here is the final version before the hair. I finished it off with Makeup For Ever HD Powder. Overall, I'm very happy with all of the products that I bought. I think the buff MAC blush is the most versatile. I still have a few eyeshadow palettes in route and will post reviews of those when I get them.<br />

I also added a section on contouring. I don't do the contouring every day, but I thought it would be a good tip.<br />
<br />
<i>If you want to take this and amp it up for night, simply add red lips and some false eyelashes for added drama. </i><br />
<br />
I start by combining my foundation with moisturizer. This helps reduce streaking. I apply it with a flat foundation brush. I use <a href="http://realtechniques.com/" target="_blank">Real Technique</a> brushes. I then buff it in with an <i>expert face</i> brush to create a flawless finish. You can see in the photo below the smooth, even skin tone on the left side of my face. The right side of my face is without makeup.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HByRpve6lSE/UW2jKr5Ei4I/AAAAAAAAA5s/xAv0VBNYUTE/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HByRpve6lSE/UW2jKr5Ei4I/AAAAAAAAA5s/xAv0VBNYUTE/s1600/1.jpg" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I then start contouring. I use the lightest color on the darkest palette of a makeup forever concealer palette for the contouring. I applied it to the hollows of my cheeks, my temples and the sides of my nose. I then added a highlight using the lightest color of a makeup forever concealer palette on the brow bone, bridge of my nose, forehead, chin and in a triangle shape under my eyes. You basically put the dark color wherever the shadows would be and the highlight where the sun hits your face. Then blend. You can see on the bottom right image the left side of my face is contoured and the right side is still without makeup so you can see the difference. It's not supposed to be a dramatic difference. The idea of makeup is to accentuate without looking like you're wearing makeup.<br />
<br />

I then applied a cheek stain using a stippling brush to the apples of my cheeks. And filled in by brows to make them stronger and defined using Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil. <a href="http://www.bouffantsandbeehives.com/2012/07/eyebrows.html" target="_blank">Here is a tutorial I did once on eyebrows.</a><br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
I also added a gold eyebrow gel to set the brows. I then moved on to the eyes and covered the entire eyelid with matte white eyeshadow. I then used the darkest matte brown from my Naked Palette to contour the eyelid. I only concentrated the brown just above the lid and on the lower lash line. I used the three brushes below to apply the color and blend.<br />

I then applied MakeUp For Ever black liner with a small brush. I made a fairly thick line with a winged end. The shape of the eyeliner you choose is up to you. <a href="http://media-cache-ak1.pinimg.com/736x/95/5f/be/955fbe334a0f4e937bc6edfe732a3bbf.jpg" target="_blank">There are many different looks you can achieve with eyeliner.</a> I finished it with mascara and nude lips. Since I don't have particularly large lips I like to keep the emphasis on the eyes. Each person should play up their best features.<br />
